Using EMDR to support meaningful change
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps the brain process experiences that remain emotionally “stuck”. It can be especially helpful when insight alone hasn’t led to lasting change, or when certain emotional responses feel automatic and hard to shift.
In my work, EMDR is not used in isolation. It’s integrated into a broader therapeutic approach that blends coaching, counselling, and nervous system regulation — always guided by readiness, safety, and purpose.
How EMDR is used in this work
EMDR may be introduced when:
you understand your patterns but still feel pulled back into them
emotional reactions feel disproportionate or automatic
anxiety, shame, or self-doubt feels stored in the body rather than just the mind
Rather than focusing on intensive trauma processing, EMDR is used selectively to help shift emotional responses that are holding patterns in place — so new choices become possible.
What an EMDR-informed session looks like
Sessions remain collaborative and paced. You stay present, in control, and involved throughout. EMDR is only used when it clearly supports the work we’re already doing together, and when it feels appropriate for you.
Many clients notice:
reduced emotional intensity
more space between trigger and response
a greater sense of internal steadiness
less need to “think their way out” of old reactions
Is EMDR right for you?
EMDR can be helpful if:
you feel stuck despite insight and reflection
anxiety or emotional reactions don’t respond to talking alone
certain beliefs or responses feel deeply ingrained
I do not offer EMDR as a standalone trauma treatment, and I do not work with complex trauma presentations. EMDR is used as part of an integrated approach, in service of real, sustainable change.

Sometimes EMDR therapy can bring up strong emotions, but we move at your pace with plenty of space to process and integrate between sessions. I’m here to support you throughout the journey.
How many EMDR therapy sessions will I need?
Everyone’s experience is unique. Some people notice change within a few sessions, while others take longer. We’ll check in regularly to make sure your progress feels right for you.
Can I combine EMDR therapy with counselling or coaching?
Absolutely. Many clients find that blending EMDR therapy with counselling or coaching creates a powerful path to healing. In fact, EMDR can be included within our sessions.
